The story of prince Cheytot

Female masked theater - Lakhaon Pol Srei
Company Wat Khen Svay Kraov
Saturday 4 October, 6.30pm
English subtitles
This piece recounts the combat between Prince Cheytot and the giants in order to free his wife, Princess Botompor, and her own struggle against King Garuda, who carried her away as she slept.

Poul Srei combines theater and dance. It is accompanied by a traditional pin peat orchestra. Some of the dancers step out of the choreographed dance, remove their masks, and narrate the story to the spectators. The origins of this form of theater date from the era of the Udong kingdom, between 1618 and 1628, during the reign of King Preah Bat Chey Chetha II.
